TJM Consulting, approaches Lean Transformation differently. We believe in Lean as a Strategy to help companies grow their businesses. We believe the two greatest issues that organizations have are leadership and problem solving. Peter F. Drucker stated “Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things. While most organizations have a strategy, the focus of the strategy is about doing things right, thus lacking the ability to execute their strategy, which finds its root cause in lack of effective leadership and problem-solving capabilities. Good management does not equal good leadership.
TJM Consulting’s expertise lies in both leadership development and teaching problem solving, doing the right things. A leader’s role is to teach, mentor, challenge, and support the people they are responsible for. Leaders use these behaviors to align people, execute and achieve the objectives of strategic plans and continuously improve the organization. We mentor and coach leaders at all levels of the organization to develop these behaviors and to focus on the right things which transform the culture of the organization.
A strategy is nothing more than a set of challenges and problems to be achieved and/or solved. TJM Consulting teaches problem solving at all levels of the organization, from strategy development to execution to achievement, with the intent to help the company sustain the gains made through problem resolution. This leads to freed up resources, allowing the organization to grow, not just in revenue, but more importantly, in profitably.
Because we believe that Lean is a strategy, we also believe that leadership and problem solving is situational, one size does not fit all. While there are many Lean tools and techniques available to use, our focus is not on the use of tools and techniques, but on the creation of flow and waste elimination, and its effects on customer value in the order to cash cycle. Many companies have used “Kaizen” events to do this, a few very successful, some moderately successful but most have not sustained the gains from the events because there has not been a deep understanding of the current situation and how the company has arrived at the current state.
Regardless of the industry, improving safety, quality, productivity, and delivery, improves continuous flow of customer value throughout the entire organization allowing the company to shorten their lead-times, improve profitability and grow. Ultimately, a Lean Strategy is about leadership, and leadership must be able to understand the current state and the level of understanding and alignment of the organization to effectively lead and challenge people to solve problems at the root cause, allowing the company to sustain the gains achieved and build on those gains to create a competitive advantage.
